Powerhouse vocalist Alex Blair is an in-demand performer in the DFW metroplex. Her musicianship stems from a deep-rooted love of pre-80's soul and an extensive background in jazz. Alex Blair's sultry, velvet
sound and charming on-stage presence is the perfect addition to any event. Alex graduated with a degree in performance from the world renown jazz school at the University of North Texas. She has received numerous awards including a coveted jazz scholarship from the
University of North Texas and outstanding performer at the Berklee College of Music Jazz Festival. She has an extensive history in musical theater, studying both
vocal technique and acting with nationally recognized teacher and author Rhonda Carlson.
Alex fronts the new up-and-coming soul band BLAYR (blayrmusic.com), featuring original songs and covers by artists such as Marvin Gaye, Prince, Michael Jackson, D'Angelo and Erykah Badu. Alex's powerful and well-crafted frontman skills are unmatched. Her band has received glowing praise for their electric performances and grooving tune selections.
Not only is Alex a heavy hitter performer but she is also an on-call recording artist. Alex recently collaborated with electronic artist and recording engineer Jacob Hammonds (soundcloud.com/thejacobhammonds). She can be heard as a featured vocalist on his first EP release, "Rats". Alex was recently recognized for her vocals on Downbeat Award winner Kyle Gordon's composition of "My Own and Only Love" (2016). You can hear her vocals featured on the UNT Jazz Singers Downbeat Award nominated album "I Can't Help It" (2015).
Alex currently teaches private voice, piano, composition and theory lessons. Her studio is comprised of over 40 students of all ages and experience levels. Alex's students have gone on to be successful gigging musicians and her teaching is in high demand.
